On March 14th, 2025, at 5:09 PM a gunman entered the Liberty County Sheriff's Office and opened fire on deputies getting off shift, killing 3, and injuring 9. The shooting had no particular motive.
The Shooting
At 5:08 PM, 2 Deputies and a Sergeant went off duty and entered the lobby to grab some coffee from the machine in the Lobby.
At 5:09, while waiting for their coffee, a masked man with an AR-15 style rifle entered, and opened fire, striking all 3 deputies, 2 of which being mortally wounded.
Sergeant Ava Rose-Patton was able to draw her Glock 19 off-duty carry, and fired at the gunman, however, she was unable to hit any of the 5 shots she fired, before being shot in the head by the gunman, and dying instantly.
Multiple deputies in the building at the time heard the gunfire, and ran to the lobby.
Deputy 1 - "9S48, Shots fired in the lobby of the Sheriff's Office!"
Dispatch - "9S48, Can you repeat?"
Deputy 1 - "Shots fired at the Sheriff's Office! We need additionals!"
Dispatch - "Copy.."

Multiple deputies rushed into the lobby to confront the shooter, only to be pinned down, or struck by gunfire.
Deputy 1 - "The hell is this all abo-" [GUNFIRE]
Deputy 2 - "AHHH SH*T!! IM HIT!"
Deputy 1 [Radio] - "LIBCOMM! SHOTS FIRED! OFFICER HIT! 10-1, 10-1!"
[GUNFIRE]
[RETURNING GUNFIRE]
Deputy 1 - "Stay with me bro!" [to deputy 2]
Deputy 2 - "[Groaning] God it hurts.."

More units arrived within minutes, attempting to aid the pinned, and downed deputies, however, the gunman was wearing armor, and the departments' standard issue Glock 17's, nor M&P-15's could not penetrate it.
At 5:26 PM, Bloxburg Valley Highway Patrol's SERT Team arrived, and started negotiating with the suspect, to no prevail.
At 5:42 PM, Bloxburg Valley's SERT Team made entry into the building, evacuated deputies, and finally, at 5:43 PM, shot and killed Blake Gilbert, ending the shooting.
