2017 OF201 is rumored to be a dwarf planet further from the Roblox Sun than Worlorn is. As the name implies, the hoax started in 2017. Many hoax creators argue that the presence of the dwarf planet is a common reason for robloxians to believe that the Blox System is larger than it really is. This hoax was made popular by fringe scientists who were also known for spreading more hoaxes.

The Hoax:

2017 OF201 was made as part of a fringe journal article describing a fictional discovery written in a scholarly tone made by fringe scientists. The discovery is known for its surprisingly good emulation to the scholarly journal format, with the lack of popular scientific contradictions that most bogus scholarly journal articles have. The article was published in 2017 and immediately caused the fringe scientists to become famous. The interstellar object was described as orbiting in between "two dwarf planets" and a "third asteroid belt", and they even provided meticulously detailed right ascension and declination coordinate formulas on where in the night sky to observe the interstellar object on any arbitrarily given night.

The Reveal:

Because of the high quality of the fringe journal article, RASA was convinced that the dwarf planet existed. Immediately, the object became the subject and forefront of interstellar observation. Telescopes would be pointed at the night sky exactly where the dwarf planet was alleged to be according to the journal article itself, but there was no dwarf planet in sight. In early 2018, RASA found the fringe scientists and sent them an scholarly journal article contradicting those beliefs. One of the most notable arguments was that it was general scientific consensus that there were two asteroid belts in the Blox System, the asteroid belt and the Roper Belt, and any claims of a third asteroid belt are bogus. They also cited the gravitational binding argument, which argues that eventually, if an object is far away from the Roblox Sun, it can be gravitationally unbound and not even orbit around it at all.

Due to the reveal, the fringe scientists gained a considerable amount of infamy from this.
