2011 Great Ete-Nistu Earthquake

The 2011 Great Ete-Nistu Earthquake was a 9.5 moment magnitude earthquake that struck in the Downtown Ete-Nistu on an unknown date on 2011. It triggered a tsunami that washed away 20% of the city. It was also the costliest earthquake in 2011 and the greatest earthquake to strike the area.

Pre-earthquake

Until 2 years prior to the earthquake, the area was quiet. 1 year prior to the earthquake, a tremor, a magnitude 4.5, impacted around 9 miles south of Ete-Nitsu. Much speculation went into this tremor as it was thought to have been a foreshock of an earthquake. This was the case. 2 months later, another, slightly larger, tremor impacted the same area, with a magnitude of 5.6. Even more speculation went into this, as foreshocks, on average, increased in size and seismologists prayed this will be the main earthquake.

Ete-Nistu issued an extra precaution warning for the city of Ete-Nistu. 2-3 months before the earthquake, 4 more tremors ranging between 4.8 and 5.8 struck in the same area. The Roblox Geological Survey (RGS) put the area surrounding Ete-Nistu in "High" risk of a major earthquake. 2 months before the earthquake, a non-significant magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Storm Valley, injuring 3. 1 month before the earthquake, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake impacted. 15 days before the earthquake, the area was quiet for the third time until 5 days before the earthquake, when a magnitude 7.5 earthquake impacted.

During Earthquake

At an unknown date and time, the 9.5 magnitude earthquake struck violently. Shaking was strong enough that a tsunami was triggered that washed away 20% of the city.

Post-earthquake

This tremor was followed by almost 88,000 aftershocks, with the second strongest, an 8.2 magnitude tremor occurring 10 hours after the main shock. 56% were over magnitude 5, 6% were over magnitude 6, and the rest below 5. This earthquake, due to the extensive nature of it, also caused other, more local earthquakes, such as a 6.2 east of Ete-Nistu, a 6.4 in Downtown Ete-Nistu, and a 5.7 offshore. Huge fires broke out near Ete-Nistu and fire fighters were about to put out the huge fires when the first strongest, an 8.6 magnitude tremor occurred. Most of the aftershocks over magnitude 4.6 were between 7.1 and 8.6.

The seismic waves went over the coast of Ete-Nistu, pushing the water away from the shore, which exposed a 4-mile portion of the coast of Ete-Nistu to be barren. The tsunami hit Ete-Nistu as a 200-feet high wave.

In Etenistu, the wave held its 200-foot height until it hit downtown, knocking over the already majorly damaged skyscrapers. It went as far inland as 4 miles, causing hills to become lone islands.

In Etenistu, 60,000 buildings collapsed to the tsunami, with another 180,000 with moderate-major damage, making them uninhabitable. Many subway trains were caught off-guard, with a subway train outside of Jailbreak City getting derailed due to the tsunami. This was, by far, one of the most felt tsunamis in 2011. Researched by scientists, they discovered that this was once every 138,000-year event. This also broke the all-time record for the strongest tsunami in the the area and the strongest earthquake in the area. Medium-sized areas of Ete-Nistu lost power. Some of the older houses in Ete-Nistu reported being without power. Older apartments in Ete-Nistu lost power. Water also was cut off significantly in some localities. Few aqueducts were completely destroyed due to the tsunami. Medium portions of roads also collapsed and/or sustained medium-sized damage, making them inaccessible. Many robloxians got broken arms and legs.

Ete-Nistu gradually was depleted as Robloxians feared that the earthquakes would get stronger, and in January 2013, the entire city was turned to a ghost city.

Since the city was built on the Cassel-Baszucki Fault line, major earthquakes can devastate the city.
