Map of the Water Turbine Hall at the Incident

On 5/9/2007, five contractors were killed in a water turbine during a routine repaint of the water turbine due to a fire burning the paint and causing a massive fire. Seven contractors were sent to repaint the water turbine, but only two managed to survive.

Before the Fire

Robloxia Waterworks was sent to repaint the insides of the water turbine. Seven Robloxian contractors of Robloxia's Waterworks were sent to repaint the Water Turbine with 60 cans of flammable paint and 7 pieces of equipment, but no fire extinguishers were brought in.

Timeline

8:28 A.M-9 A.M

7 Contractors of Robloxia Waterworks arrived at the Water Turbine to repaint the inside of the Water Turbine, the Turbine was turned off at the Control Room near the Turbine where work was held, including the Air passage to the Canal was cut off to prevent any water from the Canal from entering the Water Turbine causing the Repaint extend to another day, but there was one problem, the Air coming in was only coming from the Entrance into the Water Turbine

9:00 A.M-9:24 A.M

As the Robloxian Contractors were painting the insides, the Flammable Paint came into contact with Electrical Equipment (Likely an Overheated Spray-painting Gadget) and set the Paints on fire, causing a massive fire, and blocking five workers from the entrance. The workers shouted for fire extinguishers, but none were brought in. The remaining two ran four miles to the hallway leading to the entrance to get fire extinguishers, one notified the Control room operator to call the fire services, while the five workers ran further to the turbine hallway.

9:24 A.M-9:29 A.M

The supervisors were notified and called for fire services, while the five workers ran further to the turbine hallway, not noticing that the smoke was traveling faster due to the very flammable nature of the paint. They stopped and contacted the supervisor. The supervisor said to push on and try to reach the escape door near the canal, which was a steep climb. However, the workers acknowledged and asked when the fire services would arrive. The supervisors said the fire services would arrive soon.

9:29 A.M-9:34 A.M

The 5 Contractors were running, trying to reach the Escape Door near the Canal, they abandoned the Gas Mask because they thought it would not protect them from the Smoke, but it was False, The Test showed the Gas Masks used before the fire can protect the wearer from any Chemical and Smoke.

9:34 A.M-9:53 A.M

The fire services arrive and extinguish the fire, but the smoke has spread to the entirety of the turbine hall. The fire department was also informed that five workers were in the turbine hall. They were suspected to be in the middle of the water turbine hall, then the radio on one of the fire service's employees said that they were very close to the escape hatch, but they were stopped because of the steep climb blocking them from reaching it.

9:53 A.M-10:34 A.M

The Fire Captain tried to tell the Control Room operator to try and open the Air Passage to allow air into the Turbine Hall, giving the Workers more time before they could be rescued. Still, the Controls were locked out, so they had to send in Oxygen Tanks to aid the 5 Robloxian Contractors.

10:34 A.M-11:35 A.M

The fire services noticed something wrong as they noticed the oxygen tanks not activating. They sent out a drone to help. However, when the drone reached the center of the water turbine, it found the five unscathed oxygen tanks and the bodies of the five Robloxians contractors, lying down dead on the floor of the turbine hall. They died due to them breathing smoke and suffocating.

Aftermath

New policies were implemented to combat this disaster:

All flammable liquids, items, and objects are to be limited to be put in confined spaces, and fire extinguishing items (Fire Extinguishers and/or Sand Buckets) are to be added to contain the fires.

The paint company now requires at least a Grade 1 in Safety (Basic Fire Safety and Handling of Flammable Items) for painting in the confined spaces. If they got a Grade below 1 in Basic Fire Safety and Handling of Flammable Items in Confined Spaces and got a contract for doing a repaint in confined spaces (e.g: Water Turbines), the contract is to be turned down prior to the activity starting.
