The 1999 Brickwood Caldera Eruption was the first known eruption to occur on the Brickwood Caldera. The eruption was categorized as a VEI 3 Moderate/Considerable. It began on June 2, 1999. In addition, it caused the entire city of Brickwood to be evacuated until June 2, 2000. This eruption caused an ash cloud that extended as far as ten miles from the main eruptive vent. Weak pyroclastic flows were generated by this eruption. Lava was also generated. Such eruptions occur in Brickwood at period from a couple months to a year; after this eruption, the mayor of Brickwood said that he will plan to implement ways such that the entire city would not have to be constantly evacuated.
