In 1934, the small town of Bloxy City in northern Robloxia was hit by a small 1.1 magnitude earthquake. It was only felt by 3 people, whom nobody else believed. The 3 people lived near the Bloxy River, which gave the city its name. Because the earthquake had barely been felt, life moved on for the people. 3 months later in January, a 2.9 earthquake hit. This was felt by more people, until one fateful day on January 17th. A 3.1 earthquake hit, rocking the sleepy town for 37 seconds. Small buildings had been slightly shattered, and light poles and wells had collapsed. Then, 2 minutes after the quake, a large rumbling sound and feeling were felt and heard across the entire valley - an avalanche. A massive sheet of snow and rock had come down during the quake and had just started to make its way to the small town. It was over 30 miles per hour, going so fast that it would decimate entire buildings and sweep them off their foundations, quite literally. The sheet of snow had come from the north of the city, just next to the river.
Once it reached the river, its force was being pushed forward and downward, transforming the landscape. Parts of the avalanche went entirely around the city and dug a trench-like barrier around the city. The "main" part of the avalanche kept going. Motorcars were trashed and mangled upon impact, stores and businesses were shattered to pieces, one train was obliterated, and the train's cars were separated and thrown around the train station.
As the avalanche reached downtown, hundreds of people, unaware of the avalanche or attempting to investigate were killed as the 40 feet tall waves of snow pounded against the brick town hall. Many residents of the city thought the town hall would survive the avalanche, unfortunately it did not. The waves of snow broke through the brick and concrete walls, filling and destroying the building with snow, ice, and rock. Hundreds suffocated or were killed upon impact of the avalanche. The southernmost building, the hotel was where many other people went to. It was made of wood and concrete, still very weak for the avalanche. As the avalanche went from 40 to 10 feet tall, it slowed down, however its force was still very strong, and destroyed small buildings, flooded the streets with cold snow, and sprained and injured people attempting to escape.
Once it reached the hotel, it destroyed a small portion of it. Hundreds of people were upstairs on the third floor, and the roof. However, only a few people were downstairs. Because the doors and windows were weak. the snow came in and started filling the lobby and dining area with hard snow and ice. Fortunately, against all odds, everybody in the hotel survived. The next day, 103 people were confirmed dead. 47 were missing, 281 people were injured. The remaining 921 people survived the avalanche with minor injuries, or no harm done. But at what cost? 95 percent of the city was destroyed, the following week temperatures started rising, causing slight floods, and 1.4 million dollars just to repair half the town. This disaster is considered to be the deadliest avalanche in global history.
