Madeline McCarthy was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives and served as Speaker of the House from 2016 to 2017. She presided over the House when members of the Republican Caucus were calling for an investigation into President Frank Underwood. The President entered the chamber and began to filibusterer the House, calling for a formal declaration of war against the terrorist organization ICO. Things came to a head when Speaker McCarthy ordered the house to adjourn and for the Sergent at Arms to remove the President. During the 2016 election, Speaker McCarthy spoke many times to Republican Presidential Nominee Will Conway to reiterate her support. However, the two had some significant disagreements.
