Joshua Masterson was a Cookeville High school graduate and attendee of Tennessee Technical College, working on his Bachelor of Computer Science. He came from an upper-middle class family, his father worked in investor relations for a crude oil company as well as an ordained minister. His mother Roseanne Miller was a dental hygienist. Joshua was likely a product of domestic abuse from a young age. He met his best friend Zachary Hawthorne in high school in 2009. They were both boy scouts and members of the wrestling team. Joshua converted to Islam in 2014, having been introduced to that faith by his college girlfriend, who he broke up with him after multiple misinterpretations of the Quran. He proceeded to convert Zachary to Islam that same year.

He was radicalized online by the terrorist organization ICO (The Islamic Caliphate Organization). He, along with his friend Zachary abducted James and Caroline Miller and their teenage daughter Susan in Knoxville, holding them hostage in a remote cabin in the woods. President Frank Underwood and Republican Nominee Will Conway were able to successfully negotiate the release of Caroline and Susan. While the FBI searched for the two students, Underwood attempted to persuade them into releasing Jim Miller by bringing the imprisoned leader of ICO Yusuf al Ahmadi to the white house and compelling him to plead for the release of the last hostage. Sensing the deception, Masterson and Hawthorne proceeded to execute Jim Miller live on social media. Masterson was secretly captured by the feds under the leadership of Deputy Director Green, and President Underwood briefly spoke to him before ordering his execution. Underwood used this event to instill terror in the American people.

His interests include: tech and gaming, the deep web, firearms, theology, chess, wrestling and electronic dance music.
