Each of the 50 States in the USA has a Governor who serves as the executive and Commander-in-Chief for the state. The Governor is responsible for signing and implementing state laws put forth by the legislatures. As the leaders of their respective states, governors advance new and revised programs using methods such as executive orders, executive budgets and legislative proposals. They also have veto power over items advanced by the state legislatures. In addition to appointing state officials, a majority of governors have the ability to appoint state court judges.
